As the leaves are starting to change here in Boston, I’m reminiscing about the time I got to do some en plein air painting in New Hampshire on a solo retreat! I spent the weekend in the woods, setting up my easel to pay attention to the subtle shifts of the sunlight on the trees, the ever-changing shadows, and how the fallen yellow leaves mixed in with the moss. Even in the few hours I spent painting this piece, I was shocked to find how quickly the landscape changed based on the direction of the sun through the trees.
